Lassiter family legacy continues with R-CCC Foundation Initiatives
AHOSKIE, NC –The Andre’ Lassiter family from Ahoskie has a rich legacy at Roanoke-Chowan Community College (R-CCC). Last year, Lassiter was honored by the college’s Board of Trustees in acknowledgement of his extraordinary service. He stepped down as a trustee after 14 years of service but continues to serve as chairman of the R-CCC Foundation Board. Having served on the R-CCC Foundation Board for 12 years, Lassiter supports fundraising efforts with donations and is now leading the charge as the college kicks off its inaugural 2025 Waves of Hope Campaign with three ambitious fundraising initiatives.
These initiatives include the Show Your Love for R-CCC Giving Day Campaign on Feb. 11, 2025, the R-CCC Foundation Golf Tournament slated for Apr. 11, 2025, and the R-CCC Black Tie Gala planned for Oct. 11, 2025. These exciting events will help make a difference in the lives of R-CCC students and the community. The college will use the three signature events to raise scholarship funds to ensure every student can pursue education without financial barriers.
Lassiter is a 1993 graduate of R-CCC, earning a credential in criminal justice. “What made me come to R-CCC was the convenience of having the opportunity to come to a community college and get a degree in my community with a low cost, and I didn’t have the burden of student loans. R-CCC nurtured me, it mentored me, it helped me and it prepared me to go on to Elizabeth City State University to get my four-year degree,” said Lassiter.
“R-CCC holds a special place in my heart. I am a product of this remarkable institution. My wife and children are products of R-CCC as well, and our family's connection to this college runs deep,” said Lassiter. “My belief in R-CCC's mission remains unwavering, and I am confident that the future holds great success for this institution. I look forward to witnessing its continued journey to excellence, and I will always be a proud supporter of this college and its important work.”
Lassiter’s wife Kimberly Lassiter is a 2000 graduate of R-CCC. She majored in business administration and earned a certificate in accounting. Daughter Andrea Lassiter received an associate degree from R-CCC in Medical Office Administration and son Andre’ M. Lassiter Jr. received a welding certificate from the college. Daughter Moriah Lassiter is a 2021 R-CCC graduate and a 2024 graduate of East Carolina University. Grandson Andre’ Lassiter III is a current Hertford County Early College student.
R-CCC President Dr. Murray J. Williams said of the Lassiter family, “We are deeply grateful to the Lassiter family for their unwavering support and dedication to Roanoke-Chowan Community College. Andre’ Lassiter’s commitment to R-CCC spans nearly two decades, from his remarkable 14-year tenure as a trustee to his continuing role as chairman of the R-CCC Foundation Board. His leadership and generosity have provided invaluable support for our students, helping to break down financial barriers and opening doors to opportunity,” said Williams.
The Lassiter family has established the Ella Mae Lassiter Scholarship for Welders. As a Hertford County Commissioner, Lassiter and fellow commissioners established the Commissioners’ Scholarship in 2020 which awards 10 scholarships each year. Lassiter, along with his colleagues at the Ahoskie Housing Authority, established a scholarship for residents of the Ahoskie Housing Authority who want to attend the community college.
“The entire Lassiter family embodies the spirit of community and service that defines R-CCC, and their deep-rooted legacy here is an inspiration to us all. As we kick off three major fundraising events in 2025, we are honored to have Mr. Lassiter’s leadership guiding these efforts to strengthen R-CCC’s mission and make a lasting impact on the lives of our students and our community. We are profoundly thankful for the Lassiter family’s dedication and commitment, and we look forward to many more years of partnership in advancing R-CCC’s vision for educational excellence," Williams added.
