R-CCC to Celebrate Class of 2025 with Remarkable Family Graduates
AHOSKIE, NC –Roanoke-Chowan Community College (R-CCC) is set to honor the graduating Class of 2025 on May 2 at 6 p.m. in a highly anticipated commencement ceremony. The event will be marked by a keynote address from Judge Takiya Lewis Blalock, a distinguished Hertford County native who has recently made history in North Carolina’s judicial system.
Among the many graduates crossing the stage, one family’s achievement stands out. Darlyn Robertson and her two sons, Amareon and Ramello Robertson, will celebrate an extraordinary milestone together as they graduate side by side from R-CCC.
For Darlyn, the journey back to education was deeply personal. “I chose to enroll at R-CCC because I came here to get my GED, and I wanted to return to further my education,” she shared. “I liked the leadership and mentorship here. The support from the faculty made a huge difference in my success. I would encourage others to enroll and to never give up on their education.”
Her sons, Amareon and Ramello, each had their own motivations for attending R-CCC but found a common sense of support and encouragement within the community. Ramello expressed his appreciation for the college’s learning environment, saying, “I absolutely love how welcoming the professors were. They allowed me to work at my own pace and grasp everything thoroughly.”
Amareon, initially considering a four-year university, found R-CCC to be the right fit for his educational path. “I wasn’t sure where to go, but I like the environment and the people who want to help you succeed,” he said. “Even if you feel unprepared for college, giving it a chance can change your outlook on life.”
The family did not initially plan to graduate together, but their shared perseverance made it possible. “Once I started going back to school and my kids started college, I couldn’t give up,” Darlyn said. “They were looking at me, and I had to keep moving forward.”
Their journey has been filled with challenges, but the sense of accomplishment is overwhelming. “I think I’ll be emotional,” Darlyn admitted. “The journey and the time it took to get here make this moment even more special.”
Their story serves as an inspiration to the community, reinforcing the impact of dedication and family support in achieving educational goals. As R-CCC prepares to celebrate its graduates, the Robertson family stands as a testament to resilience, commitment and the power of education.
Dr. Murray J. Williams, R-CCC President, stated, "The Class of 2025 represents perseverance, dedication and the boundless potential of education to transform lives. Each graduate has embraced challenges and emerged stronger, and no one exemplifies this more than the Robertson family. Their journey is a powerful reminder that education is not just an individual achievement, but a legacy that inspires generations. We are incredibly proud of all our graduates and look forward to seeing the impact they will make in their communities and beyond."
Judge Takiya Lewis Blalock, the evening’s keynote speaker, will bring her own story of perseverance and success to the stage. A Hertford County native, she has dedicated her career to serving her community, culminating in her recent election as District Court Judge for District 7. Her address is expected to motivate and empower graduates as they step into their futures.
Roanoke-Chowan Community College looks forward to honoring the achievements of all graduates on this momentous evening.
