Community to Gather at R-CCC for Black History Month Celebration Honoring Local Leaders
AHOSKIE, NC –Roanoke-Chowan Community College (R-CCC) invites the community to a special Black History Month celebration at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2025, in the Freeland Building’s Community Room. This inspiring event will highlight the significance of Black history and recognize outstanding individuals making a difference today.
Judge Takiya Lewis Blalock will be the keynote speaker. Judge Blalock will share her journey and insights, reflecting on the achievements and ongoing progress within Black history.
As part of the celebration, 2025 Black History Maker Honorees will be recognized for their contributions to the community:
- Dr. Mary Ruffin-Harrell – Education advocate
- Pastor Donnie Graham – Community leader and mentor
- Sheriff Dexter Hayes – Trailblazer in public service
- Sheila Porter – Past Chair and Member of the Hertford County Board of Education
This event is an opportunity to celebrate Black history, culture, and the lasting impact of these incredible leaders. It is free and open to the public.
