Roanoke-Chowan Community College to host Open House and Job Fair July 22
(AHOSKIE) Roanoke-Chowan Community College will host an open house and job fair on Thursday July 22nd from 9 am – 12 noon and from 4 pm – 7 pm. The open house will be held in the courtyard and the job fair in the Multipurpose Room with safety precautions in place.
“We are excited to welcome students back to our campus for Fall 2021 and have so many new opportunities for students to pursue,” states Dr. Tanya W. Oliver, associate vice president for student services. “We are especially pleased to offer the Free Tuition program that is available for new and returning students in the fall of 2021.”
The ‘free tuition’ program is part of the North Carolina Longleaf Commitment Grant and available to 2021 high school graduates. For new and returning students, free tuition will be available through various funding sources.
“We encourage high school graduates to take advantage of this great new opportunity for students who enroll in a college curriculum program,” says Dr. Oliver. “There are funds available for any student of any age to pursue a degree, diploma or certification.”
College advisors will be available to guide students from the application process, to financial aid, to enrollment. Popular degrees in nursing, business administration, and information technologies continue to offer increased job opportunities. Other college curriculum programs include associate degrees in fine arts and the sciences. Diploma and certification programs include heating and air conditioning, welding, and cosmetology.
“In continuing education, we are excited to offer a new course in truck driver’s license certification,” says Vice President Wendy Vann. “This is a four-week program that includes practical hands-on driver training and we have local employers who are ready to hire graduates who receive this certification.”
“This is a very exciting time for the college,” expressed Dean Vann. “We are pleased to offer students training and “free tuition” for an array of allied health courses.”
Nurse aide certification, phlebotomy, EKG, pharmacy technician, welding, barbering, and emergency medical services/public safety training are all popular continuing education courses that lead to employment in our area, according to Vice President Vann. The “free tuition” program will fund the cost for short-term training.
Those interested in completing a high school equivalency can enroll in the College and Career Readiness program (CCR) to complete this diploma on-campus or on-line.
The open house will feature all of these programs and provide information on requirements as well as the job opportunities available in each one.
The job fair will feature local business and industry representatives to assist with applications for job opportunities available now. Those participating include Thompson Industries Services, Sun Energy, Hertford County NC Works, Roanoke-Chowan Community Health Center, and others.
The event includes refreshments, games, and raffles for prizes. For more information about the open house or job fair, contact Roanoke-Chowan Community College Office of Student Services at 862-1200.
