Office of the President at Roanoke-Chowan Community College
Greetings from the Office of the President at Roanoke-Chowan Community College!
At our college, we are all about creating pathways of opportunity for the students we serve. Curriculum is a key component of our mission at the community college. We are constantly evaluating the curriculum we offer to students in the Roanoke Chowan area. Every day we strive to offer the curriculum degree, certificate, and diploma courses that our students need the most.
I am excited to announce that we are introducing a new Associate in Arts in Teacher Preparation effective in the Fall Semester 2022. Teachers are in high demand in our area and across the state. There has never been a more important time to prepare credentialed teachers to teach children.
The Associate in Arts – Teacher Preparation is a planned program of study with 60 semester hours of credit and college transfer courses that will lead to a four-year degree in education. Through state agreements, all graduates with the Associate in Arts degree in Teacher Preparation may transfer with junior status to the institutions of The University of North Carolina. Graduates must obtain a grade of ‘C’ or better in order to transfer as a junior.
We are proud of the success of our transfer students through the years and pleased to offer this pathway for students who dream to be the teachers of tomorrow.
Not only are we preparing students for teaching jobs, we are also pleased to offer the Advanced Manufacturing Institute as we align our degree, diploma, certificate, and workforce programs with the needs of our regional job market. The Advanced Manufacturing Institute at RCCC prepares students for a career in the manufacturing sector and can lead to immediate jobs in northeastern North Carolina.
Steven Fair, from the Enviva corporate office, recently visited our campus to discuss the Institute and ways we can partner to prepare students for jobs at Enviva. Partnerships like this are opportunities for our students to earn family-sustaining wages and increase social mobility. The Advanced Manufacturing Institute is one way our college is serving as a catalyst for workforce development in the Roanoke-Chowan area.
