R-CCC partners with Nucor Steel to construct new truck driver training pad

(AHOSKIE) Roanoke-Chowan Community College recently completed construction of a new official truck driver test/practice pad located at the Universal Technical Training Center on the college’s main campus. Nucor Steel Hertford County partnered with the college to fund a portion of the costs to build the training pad. Roanoke-Chowan area students now may earn Class A Truck Driver Certification (CDL) without having to leave the area to receive behind-the wheels, on the road, practice and certification test.
R-CCC offers a safety-focused CDL Truck Driver Class A training program to prepare students for careers as entry level truck drivers. The course includes classroom and computer training as well as field driving in late-model tractor-trailers exclusively used for student training. The new training pad is officially designed for testing so students may receive certification locally at R-CCC. The demand for truck drivers has increased and often students are pre-hired by trucking companies even before graduation. Grants and scholarships are available to assist students with tuition and fees. For more information about CDL training and certification, contact the R-CCC Office of Continuing Education at (252) 862-1307.
