R-CCC Hosts the Career and Community Resource Fair
Roanoke-Chowan Community College hosted the Career and Community Resource Fair on March 21st, held in the Student Services Center Multipurpose Room. The event was co-hosted by R-CCC and Hertford County Early College. Rivers East Workforce Development sponsored the event. The fair was free and open to the public.
Local businesses and industries actively participated, providing valuable information on careers and community resources. Some of the participants included the Choanoke Area Development Association, City of Franklin VA Police Department, DHHS Vocal Rehabilitation, ECU Health Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, ECU School of Dental Medicine, Hertford County NCWorks Career Center, Hertford County Department of Social Services, Hertford County Public Schools, Integrated Family Services, and Legal Aid of NC Inc.
Additionally, the NC Department of Insurance, Nurse-Family Partnership of Northeast NC, Professional Staffing Solutions, Quality Home Staffing, Roanoke Chowan Community Health Center, Roanoke Cooperative, State Employees’ Credit Union, and the Gathering Place were also present.
The R-CCC Small Business Center provided essential information about available resources. Attendees were treated to free haircuts courtesy of the R-CCC Barbering School. Two current students, Amonte Mitchell and Michael Payne, expressed their satisfaction in making a positive impact on those who received free services during the event. Amonte finds joy in “helping people feel better about themselves,” while Michael believes that “putting a smile on someone’s face is like telling them a good quote.”
Mr. Rhynda Riddick, Jr., the Program Coordinator and Barbering Instructor, shared his enthusiasm for allowing students to express themselves creatively. Amonte and Michael continue to develop their conversation skills, preparing for success in the industry. They are expected to finish the Barbering program by 2025.
