Attend R-CCC Tuition-Free Through Next NC Scholarship Program

Financial Aid Staff hosting summer FAFSA Days

AHOSKIE, NC – Prospective and returning students may qualify to attend Roanoke-Chowan Community College (R-CCC) tuition-free through a new financial aid program called the Next NC Scholarship. Completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is required, and since it is a scholarship, the money doesn’t have to be repaid. Priority is given to students who apply by Aug. 15, 2024.

The College will host FAFSA Days on Tuesdays and Thursdays throughout the summer from 9-11 a.m. and 2-4 p.m. Those interested should bring 2022 tax returns and financials (personal or parents) to complete the FAFSA. The Financial Aid Office is in the Student Services Center on campus.

“This is a gamechanger for helping more people in our community pursue a degree. We are so excited to offer this opportunity to new and returning R-CCC students. Our Financial Aid staff is ready and willing to help students take advantage of this assistance,” explained R-CCC Dean of Student Services Danielle Ruffin.

The Next NC Scholarship is a financial aid program helping North Carolina state residents from households making $80,000 or less to pursue higher education. Tuition and fees are fully covered at any NC community college for those who qualify. Funding for the scholarship combines state and federal financial aid to create an award that is easier to understand and makes education more affordable.

Students attending R-CCC could receive at least $3,000 - more than the cost of full-time tuition, which means qualifying North Carolinians could attend R-CCC and have tuition and fees 100% covered. Those with the greatest need for financial aid may qualify for additional funding.

To receive the Next NC Scholarship, a student must be:

•A North Carolina resident who is eligible for in-state tuition
     • A high school graduate (high school equivalency completers are eligible)
•From a household with an annual Adjusted Gross Income of $80,000 or less
•Enrolled in an eligible undergraduate curriculum program for the 2024-25 academic year
•Taking at least 6 credit hours per semester (part-time students will receive a partial award)
•Meeting the Satisfactory Academic Progress standards of the school you plan to attend
•A student who has completed the 2024-25 FAFSA (with a resulting Student Aid Index at or below 7,500 - once complete, the Financial Aid Office will determine and confirm eligibility)
