New MOA/OA Program Coordinator selected at R-CCC

New MOA/OA Program Coordinator selected at R-CCC

AHOSKIE, NC – Roanoke-Chowan Community College (R-CCC) has selected Kelly Raynor to serve as the new Medical Office/Office Administration (MOA/OA) Program Coordinator. Raynor started on Aug. 12 and assumed the position from Beverly Sessoms who retired in June, after 26 years of service to the college.

Most recently, Raynor served as the Health Information Manager at Three Rivers Health & Rehabilitation Center in Windsor where she maintained and audited all medical record requests, and medical coding for all new admissions.

Prior to that, she served in multiple roles at Scotland House Assisted Living & Memory Care in Scotland Neck. She has also worked in mental health practices and an animal hospital.

“I was most interested in working at R-CCC because I really wanted to be a part of the education journey for adult learners. I attended Edgecombe Community College in Tarboro at a time in my life when I was directionless— being a student there and having such a positive experience really turned things around for me. It made me eager to learn and gave me a great appreciation for higher education. When I saw the MOA/OA program coordinator position available, there was no question in my mind that I wanted to apply and possibly contribute to the education of adult learners,” said Raynor.

In addition to instructing program courses, Raynor will advise students and assist with registration. She will also serve on college committees and develop curriculum.

“I look forward to growing my program on campus. MOA/OA is often overlooked as a program of study, but once the degree is earned, there are so many options for people who want to be in healthcare but don't necessarily want to do the hands-on work of a nurse or medical assistant,” explained Raynor. “I hope the community discovers that there are options for full-time employees, or parents, or caregivers—especially with the program being offered totally online. You can earn an education and handle all your other responsibilities with the flexibility of community college.  Getting your education is an awesome investment! It is something that no one can ever take from you, and I want to share that message with this campus and the community.”

Raynor added that the MOA/OA degree opens doors in a variety of healthcare fields including hospitals, specialty practices, dental offices, behavioral health, and long-term care, among others. If there are patients and health information, there is an opportunity there—and healthcare will never stop growing.

According to Salary.com, the job earnings for Medical Office Administrators in North Carolina range from $61,700 to $81,408 depending on the location and the applicant’s education and experience. R-CCC’s program gives students the opportunity to learn the skills necessary to maintain a medical office and will help guide their career goals as administrative specialists in healthcare.

“We are excited to welcome Kelly Raynor as the new Medical Office/Office Administration Program Coordinator at Roanoke-Chowan Community College," said R-CCC President Dr. Murray J. Williams. "Kelly’s wealth of experience in healthcare administration and her passion for education make her an exceptional fit for this role. Her knowledge will be instrumental in preparing our students for careers in the ever-growing healthcare industry. We are grateful for her commitment to shaping the future of our program and supporting student success."

R-CCC Executive Vice President of Academic and Student Affairs Dr. Tanya Oliver echoed those sentiments on Raynor’s appointment. “We are elated that Ms. Raynor has joined our faculty. She brings invaluable experience to the position, and I anticipate our students will greatly benefit from being in her classroom – whether in person or online. We look forward to many student successes in the MOA/OA program.”

Raynor earned a Medical Coding diploma and Associate in Applied Science degree in Health Information Technology from Edgecombe Community College in Tarboro. She also holds a bachelor's degree in Business Administration and a Master of Business Administration from UNC-Pembroke.
