Moody is named new TRiO Retention Specialist at R-CCC

AHOSKIE, NC – Roanoke-Chowan Community College (R-CCC) has named Catherine Moody as the new TRiO Retention Specialist in the Student Support Services Office. Moody started her position on Oct. 1.

“For the last several years, I’ve had the dream of working with students at the college level. I’ve always been passionate about working with individuals to help them realize their potential and to be successful in their academic and social endeavors,” said Moody.

“When this job position became available at R-CCC, I knew that it was the perfect opportunity to put the two together to contribute to the education of adult learners. I was a transfer student myself in my education journey. I spent two years at Pitt Community College before transferring to East Carolina University. I remember the impact community college had on me, especially when it came to the transfer process, so I was excited to hopefully provide that same feeling to others,” she added.

Prior to arriving at R-CCC, Moody was an elementary teacher with Pitt County Schools at Northwest Elementary School in Greenville, NC. Her first two years, she taught kindergarten and most recently, she taught first grade.

During her time with Pitt County Schools, Moody was part of the Key Beginning Teacher Program for 2022-2023, and last school year, she served on the School Improvement & Leadership Team as the first-grade representative, Professional Learning Community facilitator for her grade level, and was the Grade Level Chair. As an elementary educator, Moody designed and implemented daily lesson plans according to different academic needs, collaborated with administrators, staff, and families to make sure students felt valued, and evaluated students’ growth while analyzing data.

“It is my hope that the adult learners I support know they are capable of anything they set their minds to. I want to help them achieve their goals while at R-CCC as well as set them up to thrive and succeed when they graduate, whether that be at a four-year university or entering the workforce,” said Moody. “In terms of the community, I want others to know that earning your degree is such an honor and here at R-CCC, we have great resources to help along the way.”

Moody holds a Bachelor of Science degree from East Carolina University. Originally from eastern NC, Moody now lives in northeastern NC. She recently married husband, Jackson, who is a native of Ahoskie.

“We are thrilled to welcome Catherine Moody as our new TRiO Retention Specialist at Roanoke-Chowan Community College. Catherine brings not only a wealth of experience in education but also a deep passion for helping students realize their potential and achieve their goals. Her personal journey as a transfer student, combined with her dedication as an elementary educator, uniquely positions her to support our adult learners and provide invaluable guidance as they pursue their academic and professional dreams. We are confident that her leadership and commitment will inspire and uplift our students and community," said R-CCC President Dr. Murray J. Williams.
