SGA Officers inducted at R-CCC

AHOSKIE, NC – Student Government Association (SGA) officers including the president, vice president and treasurer were officially inducted at Roanoke-Chowan Community College (R-CCC) on Nov. 13.

Markee Watford was inducted as SGA president. Watford, who is originally from Charlotte, lives with his grandmother in Colerain. Watford is majoring in the business administration program while at R-CCC. When asked why he wanted to be involved, Watford said, “In SGA, I can be a leader and be a part of the college. I would like to help students be more involved on campus.”

SGA Vice President Janiyah Tann calls Ahoskie home. Tann, a Hertford County Early College student, is also enrolled in the Associate in Science program at the college. A self-proclaimed social butterfly, Tann explained why she wanted to be part of the college’s SGA. “I love being involved. I would like to make events more entertaining and interactive and that way everyone is included,” she said.

Jameilya Lewis hails from Como and was inducted as the SGA treasurer. Lewis is a Hertford County Early College student and is enrolled in the Associate in Science program at R-CCC. “I really like our school, and I want to be more involved on the college side since I’m an Early College student,” said Lewis. “I want to make sure that we have fun events on campus, and everyone is happy.”

R-CCC President Dr. Murray J. Williams said of the inductees, “Congratulations to our newly inducted Student Government Association officers, Markee Watford, Janiyah Tann, and Jameilya Lewis. Each of our SGA officers brings unique strengths, a commitment to service, and a passion for making Roanoke-Chowan Community College an even more engaging place for all students. With Markee’s focus on leadership and involvement, Janiyah’s enthusiasm for creating vibrant campus experiences, and Jameilya’s dedication to bringing Early College students into the fold, each student reflects the spirit of R-CCC. We are excited to see the positive impact their leadership will bring to our campus community."
