First-ever Regional Career Fair hosted by Area Community Colleges

AHOSKIE, NC –Although the weather was a bit rainy, it did not dampen the spirits of those who attended the first-ever Regional Career Fair on Saturday, July 13. Six area community colleges hosted the event, which was held at Edgecombe Community College’s Barnhill-Jenkins Center for Innovation in Tarboro.

Job seekers spoke with representatives from the College of the Albemarle, Edgecombe Community College (ECC), Halifax Community College, Martin Community College, Nash Community College and Roanoke-Chowan Community College (R-CCC). Same day in-person and virtual interviews were conducted.

“I am pleased to see the collaboration between our institutions in support of one another. I hope this is the start of future events like this,” said ECC President Dr. Greg McLeod.

“More importantly, I hope it serves the needs of not only our community colleges, but also of our applicants and those who are seeking good, quality jobs at our institutions. This is a mini version of a traditional job fair to help our institutions meet our human resources needs. We are honored to host the event this year and happy to showcase our campus and provide hospitality. I look forward to seeing the next iteration of this event next year,” McLeod added.

The concept of a regional community college career fair was initiated by R-CCC President Dr. Murray J. Williams who approached fellow presidents about the idea.

“Even though college campuses typically do not experience as much activity during the summer months, we still have human resource needs to meet. From staff positions to adjuncts, we are continually looking for talented individuals to work at our institutions,” said Williams.

“I believed that a collaborative approach would serve all of us well and provide valuable information to prospective employees. I appreciate the collegial way our various teams worked together to launch a successful event,” she noted.
