Dominique Williams selected as HST Program Coordinator

AHOSKIE, NC – Roanoke-Chowan Community College (R-CCC) has selected Dominique Williams to serve as the Human Services Program Coordinator. Williams has served R-CCC as a program adjunct since 2016 and filled the role as coordinator in August.

“I am excited to continue working at R-CCC in this role. I look forward to being a support to students and contributing in a positive way to their educational journeys. I find great reward in being a part of their educational experience. There are many obstacles and challenges adult learners may sometimes face as they can be balancing several responsibilities. I understand the importance of having the necessary support, guidance and motivation to be successful adult learners and I hope to have this impact on my students,” explained Williams.

Currently, Williams serves with a hospice agency as a medical social worker. In the role, she completes case management assessments for patients and families, develops plans for patient care, provides social work expertise and assists patients and families with personal and environmental difficulties associated with medical conditions.

“I look forward to the human services program growing on campus. I hope to help create an environment on campus where the program can foster creativity and innovation to help with the continued growth of the program. This will also assist students to enter the workforce within their community with the necessary tools to be competent human service workers,” Williams added.

Prior to her current experience, Williams served as a local county social worker at multiple levels. In those roles, she worked with intake, emergency services and foster care licensure, and adult services. She emphasized the continued need for prospective employees in the field. “There will always be a need for human service workers,” said Williams.

According to Salary.com, the job earnings for a human services worker in North Carolina range from $26,513 to $37,914 depending on the student's location, education and skills. Students who plan to further their studies and complete an advanced degree in human services or a related field can earn a salary of $57,205 to $71,191.

Human service workers can be employed in a variety of settings such as social services, mental health agencies, group homes, schools, hospitals, health care facilities, and government agencies. They provide services with the goal of improving their clients' lives.
According to the U.S Bureau of Labor Statistics, human service occupations are projected to grow faster than the average of all occupations from 2023-2033.

“With great enthusiasm, I welcome our new Human Services Program Coordinator to our academic community. Ms. Williams’ passion for helping others and her commitment to shaping compassionate, skilled professionals will play a crucial role in our mission,” said R-CCC President Dr. Murray J. Williams. “Together, we will continue to uplift and empower individuals, making a lasting impact on the communities we serve.”

Williams holds a Master of Social Work from the University of New England, an MS in Human Services specializing in Social and Community Services from Capella University, and a BS in Psychology from Elizabeth City State University.
