R-CCC Nursing Program accepting applications, grads can earn $65K+ per year
AHOSKIE, NC – The Roanoke-Chowan Community College (R-CCC) Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) Program is now accepting applications for Fall 2025. The early admissions process runs through Jan. 1, 2025, with regular admissions ending on March 1, 2025.
Second-year ADN students Sharnitta Fennell and Aniqua Tyler of Ahoskie and Blake Bolton of Conway encouraged prospective nursing students to apply soon to the program and highlighted benefits they have received while being enrolled at R-CCC.
“I like that the program is small and close knit. You’re in a class that ranges from 15 to 25 students, so you get that one-on-one attention with your instructors and one-on-one help after school if you need it. You get clinical experience, and we have our own lab, so you get to practice on patient mannequins first before going out into the community,” said Tyler.
“Being the mother of a five-year-old and having to work, it’s been difficult, but with the support of my family, friends and my teachers, it has been one of the greatest and best decisions that I’ve made. My plans are to give back to the community. I want to work right here in Ahoskie at ECU Health Roanoke-Chowan Hospital on the med-surg floor,” added Tyler.
The nursing profession boasts high salaries and strong job demand. On average, pay for nursing jobs is $35 per hour for new RNs in the state, or $65,000 per year. Nursing has a bright projected job outlook. RNs are greatly needed in acute care hospitals, long-term care facilities, schools, specialty clinics, correctional facilities, and in home health agencies. For 2024, the employment rate for ADN graduates was 100%.
“I encourage prospective students to evaluate what they want to do. Of course, every nursing program will be difficult, but the most important thing to decide is what do they want to do and how do they want to drive themselves to becoming a healthcare professional,” explained Bolton, who plans to pursue a bachelor’s degree in the field after graduation from the R-CCC program.
Fennell added, “I like that the R-CCC nursing instructors give you the foundation you need, and they are preparing you for the real world when you become a nurse. It may be hard, but you can do it. You have your teachers to help, and you have your family to help you get through this process. After graduation, I plan on working at ECU Health as a labor and delivery nurse.”
R-CCC ADN Director Stacey Futrell is also encouraging prospective students interested in the nursing program to apply early.
“At R-CCC, you are not just a nursing student, you are our nursing student. Our student to faculty ratios allow for individualized educational support which grants us the privilege of focusing on the individual needs of our students. The hardworking and dedicated faculty are constantly revising and updating instructional methods to help each new student to be successful in their learning. We utilize hands-on activities and a flipped classroom setting to reinforce and strengthen knowledge. Throughout the program, students will have more than 800 hours of clinical experience and enjoy a large variety of real-word, hands on practice in multiple healthcare settings,” said Futrell.
“At R-CCC, the combined nursing faculty have more than 100 years of nursing experience and 40 years of teaching experience, and a track record of success with a 100% NCLEX first time pass rate in 2024,” she added.
Nursing program graduates are eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX), which is required to practice as a registered nurse. According to the National Council of State Boards of Nursing website, the passing standards for the NCLEX reflect the amount of nursing ability currently required to practice competently at the entry level. NCLEX results are an important component used by boards of nursing to make decisions about licensure.
“I am proud to invite prospective students to apply to our Associate Degree Nursing program for Fall 2025. This program not only equips students with the skills and knowledge needed to excel in the field of nursing, but also fosters a supportive learning environment where each student receives individualized attention. I encourage those who are passionate about healthcare and making a difference in their community to take the next step in their career journey. Our graduates have shown outstanding success and strong job placement. Now is the time to invest in your future—apply early and join us in creating a healthier tomorrow," said R-CCC President Dr. Murray J. Williams.
